Private Equity

Unlock the value in life-science portfolio companies, from the value-creation plan to a successful exit.

The Challenge

When the hold runs longer than planned

The 2022–2025 biotech and venture slowdown pushed many life-science holdings past their planned exit. Revenue can trail the plan, many of these companies have no dedicated sales engine, and the buyer story needs updating.

I work alongside management to change that, quickly: finding near-term revenue, opening strategic relationships and giving buyers a clear reason to pay for the growth ahead.

How I Help Portfolio Companies

I work with private equity firms and the management teams of their life-science holdings, including CROs and central labs, CDMOs, research tools and diagnostics companies. The focus is practical: near-term revenue, strategic relationships and an equity story that makes the exit easier to achieve.

1

Value Proposition

Where does the company really win in today's market, and where has it drifted since entry? I test the offering against current customer needs, competitors and pricing, so the plan for the rest of the hold is built on where the market is now, not where it was at the time of investment.

2

Near-Term Revenue

New customer segments, strategic and channel partnerships, lighthouse accounts and OEM relationships, and new offerings built on capabilities the company already has. Where there is no classic sales force, I open the doors myself and hand warm opportunities to the team.

3

Exit Story

Buyers pay for growth they can see. I help management build the equity story, KPIs and data-room narrative that present a growth platform with a clear path forward, supporting both EBITDA and the multiple and making the exit easier to achieve.

Track Record

Cerba Research: as VP, Global Lead for Biomarkers, tripled business development revenue in eight months and established the company's APAC presence.

Enzo Life Sciences: built a corporate BD function, led scientific diligence, and assembled and launched a qPCR testing system for clinical labs.

Harvard Office of Technology Development: as Director of Business Development, formed new companies from university technology.

Scientist by training: PhD in Immunology from Yale, five IRB-approved clinical trials as principal investigator, and multiple diagnostics and cell-based patents.

Case Study: Positioning for Exit

A private equity-backed life-science research tools company brought me in as embedded commercial leadership to sharpen the growth story buyers will underwrite at exit.

I identified an emerging, regulation-driven market adjacent to the company's core products and built the strategy to enter it, focused commercial effort on a prioritized list of high-value pharma and biotech accounts, and put leading-indicator KPIs in place so management and the board can track progress against the exit plan.

The result: a new growth vector and a measurable pipeline that make the equity story more compelling to buyers and help facilitate a successful exit.

Also for Deal Teams

Deal sourcing and scientific diligence: a scientific check plus a commercial screen, producing shortlists of targets, including add-ons for buy-and-build strategies and CDMO, CMO and CRO consolidation plays.
